How to Judge the Quality of a Warehouse Cage

Competition is fierce, and many cage makers, to cater to customers chasing low prices, keep lowering production standards: wire diameter below spec, channel steel getting thinner and thinner. It looks cheap in the short run, but a warehouse cage is a heavily used tool. A low-quality cage breaks down after long use and causes the customer unnecessary losses. A warehouse cage itself has a fixed capacity, stacks neatly, shows its contents at a glance, makes stocktaking easy, and raises warehouse space utilization. How do you judge its quality? First, look at the high-carbon wire and channel steel. The body of the cage is high-carbon wire plus channel steel. The wire material sets the overall strength; a proper maker can provide a wire material report, and wire from a large steel mill is generally better than from a small one. Much of the load presses on the channel steel, so whether the channel steel is thick enough directly decides whether the load rating is met. Second, look at the welds. Good material does not equal a qualified cage. Every wire intersection on a mesh panel must be welded - no broken welds or missed welds - and the base must be fully welded for the strength to hold. Third, look at the galvanizing. The surface zinc layer must be at least 8 microns, bright, spot-free, and free of sharp edges. The money saved by chasing a cheap cage may all be lost when the cage is scrapped early.
