To extend cage life, work both raw material and upkeep. On material: choose quality steel, sized wire diameter and channel thickness to the load — do not pick thin stock for cheapness. On upkeep: operate correctly and to spec, and inspect regularly. Daily use has two watchpoints. First, never stack loads in a concentrated or off-center pile. An off-center load tips once stacked high; a fallen cage deforms, damages goods, and endangers people. Second, no rough forklift work, no bumping the cage. Forks enter and leave smoothly, slow in corners; a bump cracks and deforms channel and stacking feet beyond repair. Do these right and ten-plus years of service is normal. Cages have fixed capacity, neat piles, visible contents, and suit factory floors, supermarket display, rack positions, production lines, and outdoor placement alike.
